Beyonce, Venus Williams, Nicole Kidman to co-chair 2026 Met Gala
Music icon Beyoncé, tennis legend Venus Williams, and Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman will serve as co-chairs for the 2026 Met Gala on May 4, alongside Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, the Metropolitan Museum of Art announced Wednesday in New York.
The Met Gala, traditionally held on the first Monday in May, was first organized in 1948 and was originally reserved for New York high society. Under Wintour’s leadership, beginning in the 1990s, the event transformed into a global fashion spectacle, attracting the world’s most famous faces and turning the gala into a lavish runway for extravagant outfits. While it remains a fundraiser for the Met’s Costume Institute, the event has become a social media phenomenon, with celebrities competing to showcase the most striking and memorable looks.
The theme for the 2026 gala will align with the Met’s “Costume Art” exhibition, opening May 10, which explores the depiction of the dressed body across centuries of art. Specific dress code details have yet to be revealed, but anticipation is high, especially given the star-studded co-chair lineup.
Beyoncé’s participation marks her first attendance in a decade, and fans and fashion enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the look—or looks—she will unveil. She previously served as an honorary co-chair in 2013. Venus Williams, 45, a seven-time Grand Slam champion who continues to compete on the WTA Tour, joins the gala as a co-chair; her sister Serena Williams, now retired, co-hosted in 2019. Nicole Kidman, who previously co-chaired the event in 2003 and 2005, also has major projects in 2026, including the anticipated sequel “Practical Magic 2” and the crime series “Scarpetta,” based on Patricia Cornwell’s novels.
In addition to the co-chairs, the Met announced a gala host committee led by Saint Laurent designer Anthony Vaccarello and actress Zoe Kravitz. The committee also includes singers Sabrina Carpenter and Doja Cat, retired ballet superstar Misty Copeland, and WNBA champion A’ja Wilson, highlighting a diverse mix of leaders in music, sports, and the arts.
With this lineup of influential figures from across entertainment, sports, and fashion, the 2026 Met Gala is shaping up to be one of the most high-profile and widely anticipated events in recent years, blending fundraising, culture, and unparalleled glamour.
