Neve Campbell returns as Sidney Prescott in thrilling "Scream 7" trailer

The iconic final girl, Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell, makes her triumphant return in the highly anticipated trailer for Scream 7, released on Thursday. The chilling exchange begins with Ghostface asking, “Hello, Sidney. Did you miss me?” while hinting at his interest in Sidney's daughter, Tatum (played by Isabel May). This prompts Tatum to aspire to become a fighter like her mother, who teaches her the rules for surviving a killer.

The trailer also features Courteney Cox reprising her role as determined reporter Gale Weathers, who survived a brutal attack in Scream VI. Gale boldly declares, “Let’s unmask this fucker,” showcasing her relentless pursuit of justice. Although David Arquette, who played Dewey Riley, is expected to return despite his character's death in Scream (2022), his presence was not shown in the trailer.

A notable moment in the trailer hints at a newcomer, Michelle Randolph, potentially meeting a grim fate as she visits Stu Macher’s house, leading to a deadly encounter with Ghostface. However, in the Scream franchise, assumptions about character deaths are often misleading.

Directed by Kevin Williamson, who authored the original Scream and its sequels, the seventh installment focuses on Sidney’s journey as a mother. Campbell returns after missing Scream VI due to salary disputes. The revival films have featured Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega as leads; however, Barrera was fired over comments on social media regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict, prompting Ortega to exit voluntarily. Christopher Landon, initially set to direct, also stepped down amid the backlash.

Returning cast members include Matthew Lillard as Stu, Skeet Ulrich as Billy Loomis, along with Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown as siblings Chad and Mindy. The film also introduces a fresh lineup, including Joel McHale, Anna Camp, Mckenna Grace, and others.

Mason Gooding teased that the new Ghostface will be even more violent, but Williamson has assured fans that Sidney will remain safe, emphasizing that her character deserves a happy ending after enduring significant trauma. He stated, “To give her anything less than a happy ending is mean... It’s just sacrilegious.”

With a blend of returning favorites and new faces, Scream 7 promises to deliver the thrilling horror fans have come to expect from the franchise.
