Excitement builds for 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' as original cast returns

Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway have set the internet abuzz with the release of the first teaser trailer for the highly anticipated sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2. The iconic duo will reprise their roles in the film, which is slated for release next summer.

Streep, who earned an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of the formidable magazine editor Miranda Priestly in the original 2006 film, has not appeared in a movie since 2021’s Don’t Look Up. She has recently signed on to star in the thriller Useful Idiots alongside Sigourney Weaver.

Joining Streep and Hathaway will be fan-favorite returning cast members Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, with Kenneth Branagh cast as Priestly's new husband. The ensemble will also include Simone Ashley, Rachel Bloom, and Lucy Liu, along with reported cameos from Lady Gaga and Sydney Sweeney.

Directed once again by David Frankel, the sequel will explore Priestly’s navigation through the changing landscape of the magazine industry. Now faced with a declining industry, she must reconcile her past with her former assistant, Emily (Blunt), who has ascended to become the head of a luxury brand.

The original film, based on Lauren Weisberger's novel, was a massive success, earning over $326 million at the global box office and later inspiring a West End musical. Emily Blunt recently reflected on the film's legacy, expressing that the cast was unprepared for its lasting impact on audiences.

Miranda Priestly has long been speculated to be inspired by former Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Wintour commented on the original film, praising its humor and Streep’s performance, stating it encapsulated both wit and charm.

Filming has captured attention worldwide, with locations spanning from Brooklyn to Milan. This latest project also marks a busy year for Hathaway, who will star in multiple upcoming films, including Mother Mary, Verity, Flowervale Street, and Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to premiere during a summer brimming with sequels, including Scary Movie 6, Toy Story 5, Minions 3, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, promising a thrilling cinematic season ahead.
