Stevie Nicks' Iconic Piano Up for Auction
A grand piano tied to Fleetwood Mac’s legendary hits is now up for auction. The black Grand Hamilton piano, once owned by Stevie Nicks, is listed by Gotta Have Rock And Roll. Bidding starts at $50,000, with estimates suggesting it could sell for $100,000 to $200,000. The auction concludes on December 6. This iconic instrument has become a symbol of rock history, making it a rare and valuable item for music enthusiasts.
According to NME, originally owned by Nicks in the 1970s, the piano accompanied Fleetwood Mac on tour later that decade, with Christine McVie playing it until its retirement in 1983. The instrument has a storied history, with Robbie Patton, the English singer-songwriter who put it up for auction, claiming it was used to write iconic songs like "Songbird" from Rumours (1977) and "Sara" from Tusk (1979). Patton, who co-wrote "Hold Me" with the band in 1982, eventually acquired the piano as part of a payment arrangement.
Patton later collaborated with major artists like Elton John and Queen. He shared, “Freddie Mercury even came by for a recording session and used the piano. Elton John used the piano. The people who have played this piano are incredible!”
Though refurbished and lacquered, Patton emphasized that the keys remain unchanged, preserving their original touch. “These are the same keys Stevie Nicks used for years to compose some of her biggest hits, the same ones Christine McVie played during Fleetwood Mac’s golden touring era. Freddie Mercury, Elton John, and other legends have also used these keys in the studio,” Patton noted.
The piano’s extraordinary legacy as a creative tool for multiple rock and pop icons is central to its appeal, making it a must-have piece for collectors and fans alike. It stands as a tangible link to the history of some of the most influential music of the 20th century.
