Stevie Wonder Releases "Can We Fix Our Nation's Broken Heart His First New Song in 4 Years
The American singer, a longtime supporter of Kamala Harris, has unveiled the song "Can We Fix Our Nation's Broken Heart," his first new release in four years. The track, while not explicitly political, arrives at a crucial moment as Kamala Harris's campaign gains momentum following Joe Biden's withdrawal from the race. Stevie Wonder's connection to political activism has been longstanding, with the artist frequently using his platform to advocate for social justice and change.
The song was introduced during a performance at the Democratic National Convention on August 22, where Wonder also performed his classic hit "Higher Ground." During his speech, he urged the audience to choose "courage over complacency," emphasizing the importance of unity and perseverance.
"All the songs I've sung and written, it's because of the love I have for you here. But this year, I have prayed hard for peace in the nations of the world, and also in each of our hearts, even though our hearts have been beaten and broken beyond all prayer. And the time has come to understand where we are and what it will take to win," Wonder passionately declared.
He added: "We must continue to move forward until we are truly a united people in the United States."
BFMTV reminds us that his last two songs, released in 2020, "Where Is Our Love Song?" and "Can’t Put It in the Hands of Fate," were also deeply rooted in his commitment to addressing injustices and advocating for a "better world" amidst the challenges of the pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement.
The 74-year-old singer, known for producing timeless hits such as "Isn't She Lovely" in 1976, "Part-Time Lover" in 1985, and iconic tracks like "I Just Called to Say I Love You" and "Superstition," has not released a full album in nearly 20 years. His last album, "A Time to Love," was released in 2005. Wonder has hinted at new projects in the works, including potential collaborations with younger artists, aiming to continue his legacy of impactful music.
